SUFYAA is one such clothing brand that was created when the founder Rina Tahar was driven by a quest to create comfortable modest clothing i.e., the hijab, which could seamlessly help her blend in with her role in the male-dominated construction industry.

Today in a short span of time SUFYAA has transformed into a brand that exemplifies modern modesty. Back then, little did Rina know that her timing was impeccable. The fashion market was far less integrated, with social media only beginning to gain traction. Using Facebook extensively Rina quickly built up a loyal customer base. Rina has also had the Ex President of Singapore, Madam Halimah Yacob as one of her clients.

Venturing to China to produce her designs, she initially ordered larger quantities than she could personally wear. However, her business instincts took over, and she soon discovered a growing community of women like herself, seeking stylish and modest clothing.

In those early years, SUFYAA enjoyed a remarkable ascent. Her unique products were met with fervent interest, thanks to the novelty of modest fashion and the limited competition. Back in 2012, SUFYAA took its first step in the fashion world by opening a store at Century Square in Tampines. SUFYAA later moved to Tanjong Katong Complex in Paya Lebar and Arab Street, expanding its reach.

But SUFYAA’s most significant move came when it embraced the digital age by launching its online store. This step made SUFYAA one of the early pioneers in e-commerce for modest wear. Today, it continues to lead the way in redefining modest fashion, catering to contemporary career women seeking both style and modesty in their attire.

At SUFYAA, modest fashion isn’t just a purchase; it’s a personalized experience. Led by Rina and her team of skilled artisans, SUFYAA has become the go-to destination for those seeking hijab attire tailored to their unique preferences. Ready-to-wear Kebaya, ready-to-wear artisanal pieces, basic songket dresses, and wedding dresses all are part of a distinctive portfolio.

What sets SUFYAA apart is SUFYAA Bespoke, a special service that ensures every garment is not just a perfect fit but a testament to the artistry of individuality, where each piece is meticulously crafted using the finest materials.

While initially catering primarily to women, SUFYAA has evolved to embrace all. Today, SUFYAA proudly extends its made-to-measure services to men, women, and children, specializing in Modest Bridal Wear and Traditional Malay Costumes. In fact, Rina and her team have dressed up entire families!

Taking every challenge in stride and aspiring to set high benchmarks in a modest fashion

Like every brand that is seeking to grow SUFYAA faces its own set of unique challenges like securing investment to drive its growth. The primary challenge is the niche nature of modest fashion. While it serves a specific audience, attracting investors can be trickier due to the limited reach of this market. SUFYAA’s distinctive fabrics, notably the regal “songket,” add to its uniqueness. However, the scarcity of these materials requires meticulous fabric management to reduce waste, aligning with the brand’s sustainability commitment.

Lastly, the logistics of finding a suitable space that accommodates SUFYAA’s studio, production area, and retail operations in Singapore’s high-rent environment is a formidable task. As SUFYAA looks ahead to the next five years, it envisions exciting opportunities for collaboration with larger entities in the fashion industry. The goal is clear: to bring the SUFYAA brand to more significant retail platforms, where it can shine alongside industry giants.
