In a world where beverages are more focused on instant gratification than savouring tradition, Jom Teh Tarik is a refreshing exception. This startup doesn’t just offer drinks; it brings nostalgia in every cup, reviving cherished memories of simpler times with each sip. As the beverage industry rapidly evolves, Jom Teh Tarik’s dedication to old-school flavours and handmade quality provides a comforting nod to the past while embracing the convenience of the present.

A Legacy of Flavour

Jom Teh Tarik’s story is rooted in a rich family tradition. The brand’s founder, Muhammad Fayiz, along with co-founders Mohamed Fareed and Muhamad Ferros, officially relaunched this beloved business in 2022. However, the seeds of this venture were sown much earlier. Back in 2007, Fayiz’s father started a humble teh tarik stall in Geylang Serai Market, where he served the local community for nearly a decade.

This family endeavour laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Jom Teh Tarik. After a hiatus, Fayiz and his siblings decided to revive their father’s legacy, bringing the cherished flavours of their youth to a broader audience.

Nostalgia in a Box

Jom Teh Tarik sets itself apart by offering beverages in disposable boxes, available in 3-liter and 5-liter sizes. Unlike many competitors, the team creates its drinks using unique, self-developed recipes. Their menu features a variety of classic Malaysian favourites such as Mata Kuching, Bandung, pineapple, and Soursop drinks, each intended to evoke a feeling of nostalgia. Despite their unique offerings, the team encountered several challenges.

Moving from a traditional hawker stall to a modern home-based business required adapting to industry changes and customer preferences. They had to refine their recipes based on ongoing feedback and navigate the complexities of marketing and outreach. Additionally, balancing full-time jobs with managing the startup presented significant obstacles, requiring a gradual expansion of operations and staffing.

Brewing the Future

Jom Teh Tarik is looking to expand beyond its current home-based operations. The company’s mission is to open physical outlets strategically located across different regions to maximize reach.

The startup has already made significant strides by participating in major events and corporate functions, offering live teh tarik stations that allow customers to experience the drink’s preparation firsthand. From its humble beginnings to its ambitious future, Jom Teh Tarik is a testament to the enduring appeal of tradition and the entrepreneurial spirit. As they continue to grow, their commitment to quality and nostalgia promises to make every sip a journey back in time for their customers.
