In a world where digital prints and machine-made crafts dominate, hand embroidery remains a cherished art form—one that brings a personal, heartfelt touch to keepsakes and custom creations. Needle Lil Love is a Singapore-based embroidery brand that specializes in highly detailed, hand-stitched pet and ultrasound portraits. Each piece is thoughtfully created to evoke memories and celebrate the deep emotional bonds between people and their loved ones—whether furry or unborn.
From a Hobby to Heartfelt Keepsakes.

Needle Lil Love was founded by Joycein 2020, inspired by her love for embroidery and the meaningful connections it helps preserve. Her journey began in 2018 under the guidance of a talented home-based embroidery mentor, @solelyfabrique. Joyce first learned the delicate art of French embroidery before diving into needle painting—a technique that mimics brushstrokes using thread. She was captivated by its realism and versatility, and soon began creating custom pet portraits and ultrasound embroideries.
What started as a personal creative outlet soon turned into something bigger. With encouragement from her mentor and a desire to bring joy to others, Joyce launched Needle Lil Love. Today, she focuses mainly on pet and ultrasound pieces, which she believes hold the deepest significance. While these are her core offerings, she remains open to other custom requests—as long as it can be drawn, it can be embroidered.
The Art Behind the Portraits.

What sets Needle Lil Love apart is the sheer detail and accuracy of each embroidery. For Joyce, the key lies in her chosen technique—needle painting. Much like traditional painting, it requires careful layering and blending of colors. Each portrait uses at least 20 shades of thread, often more for eye colors or complex fur tones. Even a white cat or dog involves subtle shades of grey, cream, and ivory to bring out realistic expressions.
The process begins with collecting reference photos from the client, ideally taken in natural lighting. Once the best image is selected for the portrait, Joyce sketches it onto the fabric and carefully selects threads for the project. Before the embroidery begins, there are several preparatory steps involved—such as drawing, ironing the cloth, and prepping the threads.

The embroidery itself typically takes about two weeks of dedicated work, done during evenings and weekends. However, because these hours vary, the full process usually spans 4–6 weeks from start to finish and can extend up to 8 weeks during peak periods. This timeframe ensures clients receive a beautifully crafted, personalized piece without compromising on quality or detail.
Once the piece is complete, the client receives a photo preview before it is carefully closed in a hoop and prepared for delivery. The final result is a keepsake that’s not only visually striking but emotionally resonant.
Future Plans and Meaningful Moments.

While Joyce balances this passion project with a full-time job, she hopes to expand her creative scope. Currently, most of her works are framed in traditional embroidery hoops. Looking ahead, she wants to explore new ways of presenting her work—perhaps through modern framing techniques or wearable formats. Her ultimate goal is to continue delivering “a little love” through every stitch, just as her brand name suggests.
One unforgettable moment that shaped her journey was when she unknowingly embroidered her own former community cat, now deceased and renamed by its adopter. Realizing this during a client commission brought Joyce to tears—but also affirmed the emotional weight her art carries. Stories like these are what keep Needle Lil Love close to the hearts of pet owners and families alike.
