Bliss Nest Capsules, established by Eric Wang in September 2021, is a pioneering Singaporean startup dedicated to revolutionizing the conventional dessert experience. Unlike typical market offerings, Bliss Nest Capsules delivers freshly crafted, preservative-free desserts engineered to maintain their quality for up to ten days. This distinctive approach sets them apart in an industry that prioritizes the freshness and excellence of its products.

Freshness and Tradition Combined

Bliss Nest Capsules aims to offer high-quality desserts that draw inspiration from traditional flavors while presenting them in a contemporary manner. The company reintroduces traditional treats to a new generation by making them more appealing and accessible. They modernize traditional desserts, such as bird’s nest, to attract younger customers while ensuring all products are preservative-free, guaranteeing the freshest desserts possible.

With over a decade of experience in the dessert industry, Eric Wang identified a market gap for fresh, high-quality traditional desserts. The startup conducted research on local preferences, discovering that Singaporeans favor softer textures compared to the firmer textures popular in Hong Kong. This insight allowed Bliss Nest Capsules to tailor their products to better meet local tastes. The company initially launched with a monthly subscription model, delivering fresh desserts directly to customers’ doors. This direct feedback loop helped refine their products and services, laying a solid foundation for future growth.

Overcoming Challenges

At the age of 37, Eric Wang faced several common startup challenges when founding Bliss Nest Capsules. Adapting the product to local tastes and preferences, establishing a customer base from scratch, and gaining brand recognition in a competitive market were significant obstacles. Additionally, maintaining the freshness and quality of their products without preservatives posed a logistical challenge. However, through persistence and a focus on customer feedback, Bliss Nest Capsules has experienced steady growth.

Starting with a modest investment, Bliss Nest Capsules sold around 4,000 units in its first year, primarily through monthly subscriptions. Increased brand exposure through roadshows and events boosted sales, leading to the opening of the first retail outlet in VivoCity in the third year. As of the latest reports, the company achieved a historical high in transaction rates, selling over 3,000 units in a single month.

However, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. One major hurdle has been convincing customers to accept a price point 40% higher than typical bubble teas. This premium pricing is due to the use of top-quality ingredients, including premium Jasmine, Woolong, and Red Tea leaves, as well as the addition of bird’s nest. Despite the outstanding taste and quality of their beverages, the higher cost initially deterred customers, resulting in lower traffic and significant stress due to the high ingredient costs.

In response, the team took a bold step. After extensive discussions, they decided to distribute sample drinks to passersby. This allowed potential customers to experience the exceptional taste firsthand and learn about the unique benefits of bird’s nest. The result was remarkable—sales surged to 250-350 cups per day, demonstrating the power of their product’s quality and the effectiveness of their innovative marketing strategy.

Expanding Horizons

Bliss Nest Capsules is on a mission to promote healthier eating habits by offering organic, less processed traditional desserts. By lowering costs and making these desserts more accessible, the company aims to encourage regular consumption of these traditional treats. Moving forward, the startup plans to expand its market reach beyond Singapore, targeting key locations like Jewel, Marina Bay Sands, ION, and Takashimaya.

Bliss Nest Capsules is poised for significant growth with a clear vision and a dedicated approach to quality and freshness. Over the next two years, the company aims to establish a strong presence in crucial locations across Singapore, enhancing its market positioning and brand recognition. With an expanding range of products tailored to different customer segments including kids, working professionals, and the elderly, the future looks bright for Bliss Nest Capsules as they continue to innovate and grow.
