The Birth of Big Blue Trunk

Big Blue Trunk brings the joy of colourful living and creativity to every home. Started in 2018, it is the sole distributor of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®, Saltwash, and Iron Orchid Designs in Singapore. It retails the entire range of Annie Sloan products online and offers hands-on workshops to help customers kickstart their DIY journey.

With Deepti’s business background and passion for creativity, Big Blue Trunk has been at the forefront of the D.I.Y movement in Singapore, offering inspiration, products, and support to help customers create unique spaces that reflect their life stories. Whether upcycling furniture, uplifting home decor, or acquiring new skills, Big Blue Trunk nurtures the creative soul with imagination, colour, and love.

Deepti’s Personal Journey

Deepti’s path to becoming an entrepreneur was shaped by her diverse life experiences. With an MBA from INSEAD and a background in Sales at Google Singapore, she discovered Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in 2014. Her affinity for D.I.Y projects grew as she upcycled furniture and experimented with interior projects during her stints in Singapore and Hong Kong.

Her decision to set up Big Blue Trunk, was driven by the opportunity to merge her passion for creativity with her business skills, the thrill of establishing a fun brand, and the flexibility of managing her own time.

The Impact of DIY During COVID-19

In 2020 the world as we know it, changed. The COVID-19 pandemic brought fear, anxiety, and stress. More than ever, families were looking for ways to relax together and spend their time at home fruitfully. For Deepti and her family, engaging in D.I.Y projects brought immense joy and helped them navigate this challenging time. They upcycled furniture, explored various crafts, and created beautiful art, finding solace in the process. Big Blue Trunk provided the supplies and inspiration for countless families in Singapore to enhance their homes creatively during the COVID lockdowns.

Deepti believes that making with your hands brings with it hope, joy, and a beautiful sense of satisfaction – all of which are essential for mental well-being. The therapeutic nature of D.I.Y projects, such as using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® to paint furniture, has helped several customers manage stress and discover their creative side. As more people in Singapore embraced D.I.Y during the pandemic, Big Blue Trunk supported them with knowledge, inspiration, and products for successful projects, emphasizing the significance of crafting and creativity in daily life.
